Subject: Re: Does anyone use synthetic oils?

>the question I actually asked in my >post was why Mobil 1 is better and worth the cost over other fully >synthetic oils satisfying API SJ/CF ACEA A3/B3 ? Without extremely expensive long term testing, about the only comparison you can make is based on the oil specs provided by the oil company. Mobil publishes most of their specs, a lot of the other companies don't do so. Keep in mind that the API specs are minimums which must be met. Almost any synthetic will outperform the minimums--and there aren't any generally accepted specs which show that one is significantly better than another. By the way, the latest API specs for engine oils are now SL (for gas engines). I've been using and selling synthetics for almost 25 years now. If I couldn't get AMSOIL (which is better than Mobil 1), I would use Mobil 1, as I am convinced by a preponderance of the evidence is better than the others I know of. Dick in Falls Church VA
