Mine was caused by a split in the turbo gauge rubber pipe which runs behind the glove box. I suspect the pipe had been kicked a few times by long legged passengers ;o) The other thought may be that there are some leaves or other crud in the area of the AC drains I have a RHD car (UK) so the internal arrangement may be different for you.
