Has anyone replaced the motor with the old > fashioned (reliable) crank handle? > What parts are required? Yep, I have done it and it is a piece of cake! I had the same issue. A 1988 900S. Driver's side window stopped working and only a good wack with a hammer on the metal "rack" (door panel off) would persuade it to go back up. Now I have the best of both worlds, a power window on the passenger side so I can roll that up and down when driving and a manual crank on the driver's side which I can roll up or down much faster than the motor ever was able. Anyway, you need to buy a manual assembly which is basically just the metal "rack" and a crank handle. I got mine used from some guy I contacted thru The Saab Network bulletin boards for used parts. I think I paid something like $30 for it, maybe $35 shipped. Basical procedure is, unbolt the glass from the current powered "rack". You can leave the metal clamp that grips the glass and is when bolts to the rack on the glass. It is the same for both manual or powered assemblies. Slide the glass all the way up and out of the way. I think I used a pair of vise grips clamped to something for the glass to rest on in the up position. Now unbolt and remove the powered rack with the motor assembly attached. Replace with manual rack which will bolt right in. The door is already predrilled for either assembly. Reattach the glass clamp to the rack. Now all you have to do is put a hole thru the door panel where the crank goes. The panel is just particle board type wood, so it is easy to drill thru. Put panel back on, and attach crank. You are done. I think it took me less than an hour and only that long because I had to remove the panel once or twice because I forgot a bolt or something. If I had to do it again, I could probably change a powered window to a manual in 15 minutes. Just be sure you get the right manual rack assembly. SPECIFY you need a driver's side assembly and if your car is a four door or a two door (three door as we Saab'rs like to call them). Patrick
