My wife's 99 9-3 conv remote works like Kal says if the line is not blocked by other cars. If the line is blocked, then we must be much closer. We have had some problems with both remotes, especially mine. My wife uses hers every day since it is her car and I don't drive it very often (prefer my 96 9000). If the remotes don't work better than that, insist they be replaced under warrantee. We have been told by our dealer that they would replace them if the keep giving us problems. I think the dealer's people are wrong or don't know what it should be. One possibility is to have the dealer go out in their new car lot with a bunch of the remotes and try them at varying distances on the cars that the remotes go with.
