I have a '96 Toyota Carina and a 900i, the Carina's been in the shop more times than I care and the Saab has been a paragon of virtue in its 200000 miles. Toyota is a good solid car though, just not very reliable in my experience. Volvo's Hmmm. I would say a C900 is just as safe and durable as a Volvo 240, though the Volvo's conventional RWD drivetrain is easier to work on.
