I have got a 1985 900S Saab (eight valve manual) that has been diagnosed as having zero compression in cylinder number one. It passes the California smog inspection nicely on all counts but hydrocarbons at idle (which are high). I don't use this car much since I live in the city and have other means of getting around normally so I'd like to be able to fix this without spending a lot of money or having to just junk it. As I read the smog readings and the information about the bad cylinder, I think it would pass smog if I could somehow make the injector on cylinder one non-functional. The raw gas wouldn't bypass the valve and show up in the exhaust. I'm thinking that a simple hydraulic plug might do the trick but don't know how these systems deal with that kind of a situation. Would the pressure bypass in the pump without damage? Does anyone have any better suggestion for taking cylinder one out of the emissions equation? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
