I wonder if this is a recognized problem with Saabs. I have a 1996 900SE, and when it was being serviced recently at the dealer's I asked if they would check the idle, which seemed to me too high. They checked the idle and said it was within specifications. However, when telling me this, the service manager asked if I had been having any problems with "flare-ups" -- a term that I had never heard before. (I haven't been having any such problems.) It may be worth checking the techical service bulletins on the Alldata site to see if there is one on this subject for your vehicle.
