Subject: '99 9-5 Idling Problem
I have a '99 9-5 with 33k miles that's developed an annoying habit. While
idling at a stop or moving very slowly in forward or reverse (while parallel
parking, for example), the car throttles up briefly, then drops back down to
normal, only to throttle up again before dropping back. The cycle continues
until you really step on the gas or shift into park. The phenomenon also
occurs when you first start up the car and shift into drive.
Adding to the frustration is the fact that the car doesn't do it all the
time. When I took the car in for its 30k service, the dealer couldn't
duplicate the trouble.
The car did the same thing back at 17k miles, and the dealer replaced the
throttle body. That seemed to do the trick -- until recently.
Any suggested diagnoses and cures? Is it possible that yet another throttle
body would go bad so quickly? Thanks!
