I needed an objective pommie point of view on my Q. I always figured the dealer was giving me a line, but hey, at least you've confirmed it. > I'm looking at a 9-5 2.0lpt Vector (£25k) saloon to replace my 9-3 > Convertible - I have specced their competitors to the same level, and > the BMW 5-series came out at £29k or so, the Audi A6 just over £30k, > and the Merc E-Class at well over £32k..... - admittedly, the PURCHASE > price of all these cars is not dissimilar, byt the time you have added > extras to the teutonic cars which are standard on the Saab, you have > very very expensive cars - for exaple, 17" wheels, leather sports > seats, decent hi-fi, cruise control, trip-computer etc - whilst some > were standard on one or other car, none of them had them all.... > except the saab..... what you see is what you get! Agreed totally. I didn't go too much into specifics about the Bima (and others), despite the mimimal price difference of a new 93 and new 318. Certainly in Oz, as other countries, one gets the "lot" on the SAAB, compared to the 'basic' 318. > I even thought breifly about the Audi A4 - smaller car, but supposedly > rather good - until I found out that at £24k alone for the 1.8T > engine, in top of the range SE spec, I wouldf still have to pay extra > for simple things like.... Same in Oz. Received a FANTASTIC deal on a new 2001 93. Way way below 318i & A4. Those dealers wouldn't budge a dollar (you can read pound), then again, for Oz at least, the majority of those cars are on back order for new buyers waiting. > However my experiences of the Teutonic Trio in Birmingham UK has been > exaclty he opposite - NONE of them will offer so much as a free valve > cap of a discount. If only they knew I had the cash. Without willing to budge a buck, I didn't even bother trying for a test drive. > So in all, I have found Saab's cheaper to buy, which allays some fears > of the steeper depriciation, and the dealers far better. Yup, which is why I bought the SAABy, despite the fact I like em. Cheap purchase price will offset depreciated resale price. > The final point has to go to a woman, (apologies to any lady trolls in > the group!) but my partner hates all things Saabish, and yet even she > agrees that you get far more car for the money, and the dealers seem > far nicer. > > Just my 10%, sorry about the rant, needed to get that off my chest! I'd give that rant 4 out of 5 ;-) Thanks for the comments re UK experience and resale value. Might just show that to the saleman next time I get the car serviced!! (despite the fact he have me a good deal) Davo
