Subject: Re: Why do Saab's have such poor RESALE VALUE?

Ermmmmmm Saabs more expensive than Beemers..... erm right! I'm looking at a 9-5 2.0lpt Vector (£25k) saloon to replace my 9-3 Convertible - I have specced their competitors to the same level, and the BMW 5-series came out at £29k or so, the Audi A6 just over £30k, and the Merc E-Class at well over £32k..... - admittedly, the PURCHASE price of all these cars is not dissimilar, byt the time you have added extras to the teutonic cars which are standard on the Saab, you have very very expensive cars - for exaple, 17" wheels, leather sports seats, decent hi-fi, cruise control, trip-computer etc - whilst some were standard on one or other car, none of them had them all.... except the saab..... what you see is what you get! I even thought breifly about the Audi A4 - smaller car, but supposedly rather good - until I found out that at £24k alone for the 1.8T engine, in top of the range SE spec, I wouldf still have to pay extra for simple things like.... ( I kid you not!)....... rear electric windows! On a £24k car? Who the hell do they think they are kidding! Sure, the essential components are there - climate control, alloys etc, but the niceties of life such as heated mirrors, eleccy windows or even, and this REALLY got to me, a split-fold rear seat, they're all grossly overpriced extras. Humph! (One happy Saab customer finishes his rant about other manufacturers!) Getting back on topinc, now I've finished my rant, certainly in the UK, Saab have poor resale when compared to BMW, Merc or Audi - though the gap is closing. I'm actua;lly getting ouf of my finance and into a new car rather too early as I have been caught out - I have put too many miles onto my car too quickly, and am in danger of going into negative equity with the car - however, if you walk into a Saab dealer and ask for a test drive, nine times out of ten, they hnad you the keys and ask you to return it before the end of the day, moreover, if you ask for a discount, they do their damnest to fit to your budget - However my experiences of the Teutonic Trio in Birmingham UK has been exaclty he opposite - NONE of them will offer so much as a free valve cap of a discount. Moreover, the chap in Audi thought that going literally round the block - about a mile and a half, with him driving for half the time would be enough to convince me to buy an Audi..... I dont think so! So in all, I have found Saab's cheaper to buy, which allays some fears of the steeper depriciation, and the dealers far better. The final point has to go to a woman, (apologies to any lady trolls in the group!) but my partner hates all things Saabish, and yet even she agrees that you get far more car for the money, and the dealers seem far nicer. Just my 10%, sorry about the rant, needed to get that off my chest!
