Subject: Re: UK Fuel Grade

I tend to use super in my 2.3T 9k Carlsson if I have the choice, but I'm not religous about it. There is a slight improvement in mileage, but not enough to cover the difference in cost (especially since many garages do not advertise the excesivily inflated cost of super until you pull out the pump). The car does seem to run smoother and I notice a big difference in boost retard on my Carlsson, without super I get an almost imediate retard on the boost, wheras with the super it will hold full boost. btw the Carlsson is 220bhp, it may not be so noticeable in the stock 2.3T. This suggests to me that the APC is detecting knock without super and since knock = engine damage I try to use super (especially for trips involving those lovely open A roads :o) David "Mike Ballinger" <mike_ballingernopsamlise.co.uk> wrote in message news:9rghrh$392$1nopsamg2.svr.pol.co.uk... > Just looking for some advice on the grade of fuel used. > > I have a 9K 2.3T which I have been running on regular unleaded for the last > 4 months (since I bought the car) the handbook says that this is OK, but you > can use anything up to 98 Octane. > > Have just filled up with super unleaded, and haven't noticed much > difference, but did think the engine felt a little smoother, and I think > that I am getting more MPG, but this could be my imagination. > > Does anyone else in the UK use Super?
