A bit of a mystery here. > >Johannes What often happens in these cases is the chain store contracts with a major-brand refinery (BP, Mobil, Shell, Chevron-Texaco, Exxon, etc.) to package a quantity of their regular oil in a "plain wrap" packaging, with only the name of the store on the bottles and packaging - which eliminates allowances for the "Brand Name" advertising and marketing costs from the wholesale price paid for the oil. I would write Halfords (or whatever chain store that you are buying from) and ask who the refiner of their house-brand oil is, and if that oil stock is API approved. If there was a oil-related failure, I would suppose that you have the warranty claims person call or write Halfords, and Halfords refers them to the refiner, who certifies that the oil is in fact the same exact stuff as their "Name Brand" oil that has passed the tests, and does bear the API seal on the "Name Brand" retail packaging.
