I have been looking at getting a Saab, too, probably a late 90's or maybe even a 2000 9-3. My purchase is mostly emotional because I love the look of the car, and the interior is simply great. I especially love the key placement away from the steering wheel and not slopping around in every corner. Aside from my emotions, and regardless of what you will hear from people's individual experiences, Saabs are rated as having more problems per 1,000 than the industry average for cars in this price range. Now, I'm sure you will hear from 10 people who say that their Saab has gone 4 million miles without a lick of work, but, if you look at just the hard numbers, they are not the most reliable cars on the market. Does this make them unreliable? I don't think so. It does say that the chance that the car will need some sort of work during your ownership of it is greater than if you bought a Honda Accord. JJ
