Subject: Re: Does anyone use synthetic oils?
In my area Mobile 1 is about $0.10 cheaper than what Amsoil 7500 is. I
recently compared 3 2.7l engines, 1 running Amsoil, 1 running Mobile 1, and
the 3rd running conventional Castrol. All 3 trucks were within 5k miles on
the odometer and the oils had been used from the 1st oil change. When you
looked at the cam through the oil fill cap, what little you could see, the
Amsoil truck looked brand new (no build up at all). The mobile 1 truck was
very close, and the one running conventional had a considerable amount of
build up for around 50k miles. This is all the proof that I need
personally. We could debate this till the end of time, and there would be
no winner. The fact is that there are thousands of Toyotas on the road with
300,000 - 400,000 miles, no major repairs, and that have ran conventional
oils their entire life. I personally do not think that running Mobile 1,
Amsoil, or any other synthetic oil is going to make a huge difference in the
longevity of the vehicle. I fell that the most important thing is to make
sure that the oil and filter are changed at regular and reasonable intervals
to prevent breakdown, and to get the dirt out. I personally run Amsoil for
my peace of mind, and I go no longer than 5k miles without changing the oil
and filter. I do not think that it make a hill of beans what kind of oil or
filter you use as long as it meets or exceeds the manufacturers
reccomendations, and is changed when it is supposed to be. It's just my
.02.
