As far as I know, the Saab automobile and aircraft manufacturing components split off from each other quite some time ago, long before GM got involved financially with Saab. You can say what you want about GM, I've had great experiences with their cars, and some bad experiences, but if you look at the numbers, the reliability ratings on Saab cars has increased quite a bit since GM got involved. That's not to say that GM is the sole reason that happened, the reliability of every car manufacturer has increased over the past 5 years, but a Saab enthusiast should be happy that this company is backed by a larger parent like GM, and thankfully, GM's mindset hasn't infected Saab and they can still produce really interesting autos.
