You may have done so, but try this. Get a screwdriver that will fit in the closed latch and then while you, or someone else presses the outside button on the door handle, gently pry the latch open with the screwdriver and it should just pop open. I believe that Saabs have a safety feature where the latch doesn't just pop open from the door handle alone, it also needs to be pulled so that kids can't just unlatch the door from the inside and just have it pop open by accident. It also may be sticking a little bit, so once it's open, try a little white lithium grease or silicone spray on the mechanism to keep it lubed and rust free.
