In either case, you _must_ get the fuel level below the holes to fix them properly. Purchase a couple of short stainless steel sheet metal screws of the same diameter as the ones you drove into the tank. Also buy some J-B Weld epoxy - if you are in the USA this should be easy to find at any hardware or auto parts store. (I don't know if it is sold in other counties.) Clean the area around the holes to bare, shiny metal using sandpaper or a wire brush. Then wipe with lacquer thinner or contact cleaner to remove any grease or gas residue. Mix up the J-B Weld (it is a two part epoxy), put a little on the threads and drive the screws all the way into the tank. Then cover the top of the screw heads completely with more J-B Weld. When the stuff has hardened, paint the area with metal primer to keep any bare spots from rusting. Reinstall the tank and let it sit at least over night before fueling it. J-B Weld is terriffic - it sets up hard enough to take tapped threads, and is extremely resistant to solvents. The only place I would not use it is on an exhaust component - I don't think it will take the heat. Good luck....and don't do that again!
