Subject: Access to 900 heater hose?

I'm trying to replace a leaking heater hose on my '88 900S. It's the hose at the top of the heater valve, with the smaller diameter hose branching off at a 'tee'. I can't reach the hose clamp at the engine--I can touch it, but I can't get a screwdriver on it. Do I need to remove the A/C compressor to get at it? If so, how do I do that? Finally, If I do Take the compressor off, is it OK to leave it off? The A/C doesn't work, and the freon is long gone. It looks lie the A/C belt only drives the compressor, and runs on what seems to me to be an idler pulley. Any advice would be appreciated! TIA -Fred Brosi
