Subject: Radio Anti-Theft Code

Hello, Let me start out by giving some background story. I drive a '95 900 SE V6 4dr. Yesterday on my way to visit my parents (a 2 hour trip) I began to have an odd gauge problem. When I was maybe a half an hour from my parents house my tach, speedo, and temp gauge went dead. So I pulled over at a gas station and shut the car off. When I started the car the same thing happened except this time all my gauges went to maximum, 7000 RPM, 155 MPH ect. So I drove the rest of the way to my parents home thinking that any minute my battery would die due to alternator failure. I made it to the house without any more problems. My father just happens to be an electrical engineer and fancies himself a MGA/B collector and restorer. He broke out all the tools of his trade and went to work. After testing some connections and "stuff" (things I don't understand) and UNHOOKING MY BATTERY to clean the battery posts and connecting clamps (because my battery is the one that originally came on the car in '95). Apparently cleaning the battery posts and clamps fixed the gauge trouble because I drove the 2 hours back to my house and didn't have the first problem. But now the point of the story, my radio needs the anti-theft code and its not in my car. The guy (Danny) I bought the car from doesn't have the code. I called the dealership (Thoroughbred Motorcars, in Nashville TN) where Danny bought the car used and they said they didn't have the code and they said only way to get the code was to bring the car in and let them take the radio out of the car get some numbers off the radio and plug the numbers into their computer and then they could get the code, for a total cost of $49.99. I have to say "HELL NO!" to that I'll buy a new radio with a CD player (because my Saab radio doesn't have one) and put that one in in its place. But, before I go that far is there any other way of finding out that code that one of might know of? Please Help. MPSchenck
