Having recently read posts on changing just the mast, I had occasion to do the job, since I broke mine. At £10+vat for a mast against £25+vat for new complete unit, and being unemployed at present I went for the cheap option. I had read here that just changing the mast was a 5 minute job. I don't know whether that is Earth time or somewhere else, but as you have to remove the arial completely and dismantle it to get the replacement nylon drive in I think it would have been quicker to buy a new unit. Anyway, fitting was easy, once you know that the motor is in retracted position, so you know to fully wind in all the new drive and mast. 7 assorted nuts and bolts later, and it's working fine. The replacement mast is black instead of the previous chrome, and I think it looks nicer :) Was very surprised when I refitted the unit to the wing and although the ignition was off it immediately made a noise (sounded like it was deciding what position it was in). tightened everything and turned the radio on - up and down properly :) You'll have guessed that I'm no real mechanic these days, not that I ever was, but the job was simple. -- Regards, Danny http://www.gaggia-espresso.com (a purely hobby site) http://www.dannyscoffee.com (UK advert for my mobile espresso service) swap Z for above characters in email address to reply
