Subject: Re: buying a 900/9000 - what mileage/year?

Check out what is available, look for rust on the body. I am not sure when the 900 NG Saabs came out, if it was 95 or 94. Which ever year it was, avoid this year because there are usually problems with the first year of a new model. The 900 brakes changed sometime between '86 and '90. The old style required a special tool to wind back the self adjusting brake piston. The 900 brakes were changed to use the same model as the 9000 on or before 1990. I know the '86 900 had the parking brake on the front wheels and used standard headlights. The advantage is a standard 5"x7" headlight cost $10 US while the 1987 and on headlight lens assemblies cost over $200 US each. Also I believe the 8 valve engine was available until 1989? After that the 16 valve engine became the standard. The 8 valve is an extremely rugged and reliable engine, but somewhat under powered. I wish I had kept my 1986 8 valve 900. It was a fun car to drive and great on wet and snow covered roads. Finbar wrote: > Hi - I've got my mind/heart set on a 900 or 9000 (I owned a 99GL about 10 > years ago), but as ever not much money.
