Eric, I guess I'm coming into this from the opposite direction - I ran a 1994 NG900 Turbo, before upgrading to a 2000 9-3, and now am about to upgrade again to a 2002 Aero (after long deliberation - thanks for your comments guys) I loved the 900 - I didn't know at the time it had anything to do with GM and with the exception of a friends 88 9000, had nothing to base any opinions on. It was an SE Turbo, and came from it's previous owner fully loaded with heated leather / cd / air-con etc etc. I did have a few problems with it, the majority of which I believe were fixed on the later models - certainly on a 97 most of the faults should have been ironed out during manufacture. In all, the car was fantastically fast, and very comfortable. I then switched to a 2000 9-3SE Cabrio - far more refined, quiter, smoother ride, but being the lpt engine, quite a bit slower - especially noticeable when trying to overtake on a country lane. However, and here's the rub, I'm not a boy-racer, but I do believe in safe power - easy overtaking etc etc. After a happy time with the cabrio, I'm moving on to a 9-3 Aero, for the simple reason is that a test drive showed me it displayed all the refinement of a 9-3, but with the rawness of the 900 - one you've driven a fully-blown turbo, there's no going back. Drive the 900 FIRST. If you like it, drive a 9-3. You may or may not like it - it's more of the same, yet different if that makes any sense! However, if you both like the power of the Turbo, you won't be satisfied with anything less than a 185bhp 9-3, which may be hard to find for your budget. If you can't find the 9-3 you want, go with the 900 - great car. Not much of an answer, but hope it helps!
