Serpentine belt is a potential problem but you won't have mjor failure of it if you listen to your car. most of the time it's the idler pulley that seizes, causing the belt to snap. When the bearings on the idler pulley is about to give up, you can hear a squeak at tickover. This should give you sufficient time to get it replaced.
