There was a special "commemorative" edition in '98 which muddles the differences quite little bit. The most significant difference in Saabs is the motor. AFAIK, the '98 will be a 185HP turbo (I think all non-turbo motors stopped in the '97 year). In '99, they added a 200HP optional motor and the "Viggen" 9-3 model with 225HP. The SE version is a trim level. Typically the SE model has the climate control, CD changer, leather, etc. Look for details in the above pages. Some items remained as "options", so you might find them fitted to a 'lower' model than the SE. Bob
