Your identification of the false bulkhead is correct. Unfortunately, it is hard to describe where the linkage attaches to the heater damper. It is in the center and quite far down and can barely be seen. There was enough room to get my hand/arm in there to install the part for the repair kit I mentioned, but it was a very tight fit. I found it by seeing where the cable went through the firewall from behind the dashboard. The only other direction I can give you is that it is under the blower motor, on the left side (as you are looking at it from the front of the car). The linkage cable looks like a wire with a loop at the end and attaches to a white plastic arm (that tends to break off, thereby requiring the metal replacement arm in the repair kit) on the side of the black case that contains the heater core.
