Subject: Re: How to turn off headlights?

Daryl M. Krzewinski <nobodynopsamnetics.com> pressed random keys until the following was produced: > The reasons are many, (snip) > or when turning around in somebody's driveway at night so I > don't blind them because I am lost in a strange area (I drive a LOT in my > work). Wow...if someone was in my driveway at night without their lights on, in a strange car, I'd be reaching for the shotgun. Seriously. > I also have some NHTSA stats from a year or two back indicating a > small, but statistically significant increase in the number of accidents > DRL-equipped vehicles are in. Hm. Got a cite so I can read it? Seems counterintuitive. > You can argue that all you wish (been there, > done that, and), but unless there is an obvious and > scientifically-measurable benefit from DRL I too am enough of a control > freak that the downsides outweigh the upsides too heavily. Fine by me. Me, I just leave the headlights on all the time, as I'm enough of a forgetful person that if I didn't, I'd likely leave them off when I shouldn't. > You politely asked, I answered. Since this is not relevant to my original > question I won't engage in another argument about DRL. Kindly take your adversarial tone elsewhere, I'm not playing that game nor am I asking you to. It was a simple question, and you answered it. > Been there, done > that, and still find the "for" arguments completely un-persuasive (yes, I am > a professional engineer, so statistics and scientific measurement of part > are my life). As am I, which is why I was asking for your reasoning. Sounds like "personal preference" and "I read a study once". I suppose decisions have been based on worse criteria. Anyway, I asked, you answered. No point in reading more into it than there is, OK? Dave Hinz
