I have once written about the resistors in a thread: "SAAB 9000 ('89) Heater Controls" in the news group uk.rec.cars.maintenance. I did some some calculations while the other poster "mymatetrevor" did the measurements. It turned out that the dissipation in the resistors are of the order 30-40 Watts! The actual resistors are rated much less than that and rely on the airflow for cooling, hence they can sometimes blow in hot weather. Other cars have similar blower-resistor problems. The setting 2 appears the be the quiet setting, whereas setting 3 is noisy but bearable. My guess is that it might be difficult to find an intermediary position that is also quiet. But this is up to you. Johannes
