Johannes, Thanks for the advice. I've found the picture in the Haynes manual, but unfortunately can't find the item in the car. This is the problem I have with Haynes manuals - lovely close up photos, but without an overview diagram I've no clue where to start looking. No doubt it's just me being pathetic, but I can't relate anything in the pictures to what I see in the car! (And before some wag asks, both car and manual ARE Saab 9000!) Could I trouble you for more help in locating the IAC valve. In case it helps, I've taken a few pictures under the bonnet and uploaded top my webspace at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ajfurn/saab/.
