Had the problem on 98 900se when I was one block from the dealer. Went in and they topped up the brake fluid - solved the problem. The explanation was the pads are wearing and the pistons need to push out more so the volume of brake fluid in the reservoir goes down and the pistons don't fully retract when the brake is let off. Solved my problem and never had any further warning.
