I'm with you there. When buying the car, I really wasn't buying it because of the safety features. Yes, they were a big plus, but buying a car in the $40K range (2000 9-5 Aero), you will most likely find a whole host of standard features in your car. Looking a the 5-Series, the E-Class, A6, S-Type. They all pretty much have the same features. For me, it was the uniqueness of the car. There aren't many 9-5 Aero's with a rear bridge spoiler in the SF Bay Area. I haven't seen one. Of course, if you lived in Aspen, all the police cars are 9-5's. I do agree...they do stop and look. Actually, as you're driving, you can see them looking your car over. Gotta love that bay Area traffic. But too tell you the truth, I met a good friend of mine (who's a Harvard B-School grad) for lunch. This guy is Mr. BMW. He doesn't know what car I drove. Throughout lunch, he was talking about how he was going to get a new 5-series. (blah blah blah) Gonna get rid of his older 3 series. So, walking back, he sees my car (newly washed). Starts looking at it and peeking inside. He comments on how the car looks and that he hasn't seen any of them around. I open the doors and let him in. Gave him a quick ride in it, and actually let him drive it. He was definitely more than pleasantly surprised. But alas... .he's still Mr. BMW. Somehow though, if more and more people buy SAAB's and it becomes the "In-car," I have a feeling he'll have one in his garage. What a lemming.
