There is an EC ruling that the non UK dealer must not refuse to supply an UK spec car if it is made. > I imported a 66 Mustang to Australia and had it converted to RHD and had a > blast for years. Quite, unless you are a visitor and intend to take the car back sometime. > Sure there's a money saving in importing for you guys, but hey, is there any other advantage?? Not really. If you pick up the car abroad, you can take a little holiday. I much prefer to deal directly with dealerships abroad rather than "importers"; these are importers outside the official dealerships. There have been too many stories about people handing over deposits and then waiting for months and months. Even one being told to pay the full amount since the car had arrived in port and then never to see the car. Hostility by local dealer garages? That's their problem, there is plenty of competition out there. And with the charges they make, there is really no sense in turning away customers. There is another kind of import. A personal import from a non EC country e.g. Japan is usually called "gray import". Sometimes used by enthusiasts because the model is not available here. But the spec may non meet the EC requirements and may require special type approval. Johannes
