If you listen closely you may be able to determine exactly where the noise is - if at the end of the engine (ie:past the engine) then it's likely to be the timing chain. If at the end of the engine, but still "in" the engine, then the balancer chain is more likely. If at the top of the engine, then tappets are more likely.
