Subject: Re: dimming headlights on 2001 9-5

I hadfn't realised this problem carried over to the 9-5's - It was first noticed on the 9-3's, particularly the Viggens. It is most common and acute on cars with Climate Control, less so on those with Air-con. The main cause is the radiator fan kicking in to cool the car, usually occurring when decellerating or at a standstill. According to my dealer in the UK, Saab are aware of it, but haven't been able (or been bothered) to do anything about it. The differences between the different models is simply that cars with A/C or Climate seem to require a little more cooling, and thus it occurs more often - also the A/C systems put a further strain on the electrical systems which cars without don't suffer from. I replaced my headlight bulbs with Bosch Xenon bulbs, and this has made a huge difference - the bulbs still dim, but as they're brighter to begin with you don't end up peering ahead trying to wonder what's in front of you! Hope this helps, H. >>seems to loose (guessing) >>> 20%-30% of brightness. >>> any help much appreciated. >>> >>Do you have A/C ?
