When you step on the clutch, the throwout bearing starts spinning. It can make noise. The engine was already spinning, so it's not that. The transmission stops spinning, so it's not that. About the only thing it can be is the throwout bearing, unless you have some odd problem with a part of the tranny or drivetrain unloading and making noise (unlikely). Best to have a tranny mechanic check it. The bad news is that the tranny has to come out to fix it, so you might as well check/do the clutch at that point. BOb
