Dan, The 9-5 Linear is, I think, a low-pressure turbo meaning you get a lot from 185HP, but not the glued-to-the-seat feel as you get from the 9-3 SE HOT engine or an Aero or Viggen. Of course you also avoid some of the lag associated with the high-pressure turbos in those engines. If you are sold on the 9-5 body style (understandable, it's very nice inside those cars), you should decide whether you can afford the Aero or not since it has a much sportier, seat-of-the-pants feel than the base 185HP engine. I have a Viggen, and it definitely will glue you to the seat. If you are not hooked on the 9-5, the current deals on the 9-3s are unbelievable with the newly redesigned 9-3 being unveiled next month. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Linear, but since you asked you should drive an Aero (250HP!), or find a 2001 Aero and make a really good deal on it, and then decide if the extra $$$ is worth it.
