Whether they do or not, I will also be contacting Saab > Customer Services. I would imagine that they will cover if the gearbox failed, it also sounds better than if you tell them that the speedo failed and cost £800. You could also have the gearbox overhauled at the same time while it is dismantled rather than waiting for the next problem, it may not cost much more. I once had a complete overhaul of the gearbox with some "worn" gear wheels replaced. > I notice that the Haynes manual warns of the danger of dropping the drive > into the gearbox when dismantling the drive, though this scenario may well > be different to that encountered by mechanical failure. Not sure what you are hinting at? If no one was fiddling with the drive, then it was mechanical failure IMO, even if it was caused by the drive. > To be honest, I am very surprised and disappointed to find myself > potentially facing a huge bill for such a simple component failure. Yes very disappointing. Shouldn't have happened. > Anyone else know of this problem?? I don't. Johannes
