Subject: New owner, 91 Saab 900s Advice needed.

I just purchased a 1991 Saab 900s at a nice deal (1400) on ebay! Being the not quite so looney person I am, I went to take a look at it first, and determined that the engine and body were sound, but I was unable to drive it (it was at a dealership, in an inspection bay). The auction disclosed that it had some slippage in the transmission. (Yes my friends, it's an automatic. Blame my wife) The dealer mechanic informed me that he was pretty sure that adjusting the bands on the transmission would alleviate the problem. I've been doing some usenet searches, and I've found others who concur. (additionally recomending a transmission flush) I was wondering if anyone is in the philadelphia area, and who knows of a good mechanic to do this. Is this a common thing that most mechanics should be capable of? (the adjustment, of course) also, in the worst case scenario, I'd like to know my options for getting the tranny rebuilt, or getting a used but servicable one (been quoted 4000 for a new one) installed, and if anyone has mechanic recomendations for Philadelphia. Thanks much, Adam Follow-up here, or if you reply, of course remove the spamsux -- /// www.boomshanka.org /// (Do you really want to quit now?) NOTE: While signatures are arguably a blemish, they are a well-understood convention, and conveying the same information in headers exposes it to mangling and makes it rather less conspicuous....
