In article <j_ds8.5978$e5.35452nopsam.indigo.ie>, johnnopsamamevion.com says... > >My question is specific. Here in Ireland, and I believe the UK, it is >illegal to drive with fog lamps on when visibility is greater than a certain >distance (100 feet I think). I am looking for a source which definitively >says why. Does such a source exist? > For the UK, look at the highway code at http://www.roads.dtlr.gov.uk/roadsafety/hc/21.shtml and the appropriate legislation at http://www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_4.htm#(Tiii)25requirementabou tuseheadlampfrontfoglamp - you must switch both front and rear fog lamps off except in 'severely reduced visibility' but doesn't specify a distance. Of course Saabs are sensibly designed so that the rear fog lights, at least, are always off when youfirst switch the headlights on. Martin
