Subject: 9000 2.3. INTERMITTENT Hesitation & Loss of Power

1992 9000 CS 2.3-16i (non-turbo) I've posted before about my engine's hesitation and loss of power, and had various suggestions including the following: 1: The rubber nipple and vacuum vent on top of the valve cover. 2: Sticky "adaptive idle control valve". 3: The DI. Well the problem still persists, though I now know it to be INTERMITTENT. It disappeared then came back under the following conditions: Hesitation disappeared - After about 1 week of no usage (car stood on driveway) Hesitation returned - About 250 miles into a long journey. As the hesitation returned, so the fuel consumption went up. I was seeing 40+ mpg (on the instrument panel), which then dropped back to about 36 mpg. I know the calibration to be way out, so these figures should be revised down by about 4 mpg. So can anyone shed any light on this hesitation now we know it's INTERMITTENT? Adrian BTW: I was lucky to survive my long journey. On the motorway (freeway), a very large lorry flipped not too far in front of me, landed on its side, took out the central barrier and ended up two-thirds in the fast lane of the other carriageway spilling a small river of diesel all over the place. Traffic density was high, but amazingly only one other vehicle, a car on my carriage way, appeared to be slightly damaged. If I'd been closer ..... well, not even the mighty 9000 could survive that sort of treatment. No idea what caused it - I wasn't quite close enough to see. Heard later on the news that the lorry driver did not survive.
