Hi Davo,
I've had that sort of noise in all my Saabs from 99's through 900's to
my current 9-5SE. I only hear it under very light load - just pushing
the accelerator down lightly enough to keep the car at a constant
speed on the flat.
I don't hear it on acceleration or on over-run.
I thought it was a Saab characteristic!
