Subject: '92 900 Automatic Transmission Shifting Speed

The older my wife's car gets, the higher the speed gets at which it shifts into third gear. Under minimal acceleration, I would feel comfortable with third gear at about 25-30 MPH, but it actually shifts at 45-50 MPH. Needless to say the gas mileage is lousy when driving slowly. Could a misadjusted transmission downshift cable prevent a proper upshift? It shifts from 1st to 2nd gear at the proper speed, and downshifts properly too. One more thing: I have to increase engine RPM by 200 - 400 in order to maintain a constant 55 MPH when going up a hill. I suspect that a non-locking torque converter is the culprit. Can anyone confirm this? Neil ======================================== Please remove the "nt" for legitimate email. Thanks! ========================================
