Subject: 87 900 lurches in 2nd gear - lousy driver?

Hello all, this is a great group... you have been very helpful to me in my last two "silly questions". I have a base 87 900 with airconditioning (A/C). When I drive the car with the A/C off it is great car... but, with the A/C on the car lurches something awful when in 2nd gear. You might think I have never driven a manual transmission car (but, I have for 25 years now and really am very smooth at it). What is causing the lurching? Is it simply because the car is severly underpowered with the A/C on (and I don't know how to drive it?), or is there possibly something else? The problem is especially severe when making a 90 degree turn and needing to be in 2nd gear (can't put it in first and third is surely too high). I often end-up slowing down even more than necessary, forcing it in first gear and risking a rear-end collision from the SUV behind me. Here in Florida I need the A/C on for 6 months of the year (at least). Turning the A/C on and off all the time is really not as workable as it may first seem (and there seems to be a lag between turning off the A/C and having my normally smooth car back). Thank you again for all your help. I hope to contribute back real soon. Saabs must be males... they mark (leak oil) everywhere they go. Regards, Ken Christensen
