Daryl, I own the Auto and can assure you that you won't notice the difference. I was the same as you - sceptical, and drove a manual for years. My last car, a 99 9-5 2.0 was an auto, and I had that straight after owning a manual 9-5 for a year. Performance wise, you could hardly tell the difference, though the 2.0L engine didn't exactly overpower the car. I was happy enough with the performance of the auto, that I just bought a new 2002 9-5 Aero with an auto box. I'm still running mine in, but the demonstrator I tried was stunning - super quick, smooth gear shifts, and a five speed box to make it feel extremely quick. If you can, test drive the auto - I'm sure you'll like it very much. The auto box really suits the Aero, and you are still quite a bit quicker than the majority of BMWs :-) Regardless - it's a fairly meaningless statistic - the Saab is incredibly quick in the mid-range, which is where you'll do most of your driving. Not many people I know spend most of their driving life doing 0-60 runs :-) But most spend the majority of there journey's stuck in traffic or driving sensibly. The Auto box on the Aero gives you an excellent, very usable compromise between practicality and performance. Simon
