As the anchoring components get dusty and dirty, they grind against the paint or clear coat and leave marks. I'll admit that it's a catch-22 as without the bra you will most certainly get chips. Some folks are using the new clear protectors directly on the paint... but I'm not to fond of those as they ruin the appearance on a daily basis, just like a bra, (although their long term advantages are documented). I've always figured that a bra is really to protect the car for when you sell it. That means that it looks odd the whole time you drive it, then looks good when you sell it. I'd rather have it look close to perfect (with a few chips touch ups) when I drive it, then look a little worn when I sell it. But, to each his own. Bob
