Regarding the warranty, this has nothing whatsoever to do with routine maintenance on a car where it isn't specifically included in the purchase price. Many things, such as clutches and brakes outisde 16,000mi or so are not included, as they're considered "wear items". In terms of the cost of the 30,000mi service, I paid around $400 in the NYC area on my 900. It might seem like a lot, but for an import car, it is certainly in the ballpark. One of the car mags recently reported a $300 routine maintenance visit on a Ford Focus (!). Dealers aren't making a killing on car purchases anymore, so they're looking to the service department to make up the difference.
