Subject: Re: FILL COOLANT FLUID

wow, now this is a can of worms! The dexcool stuff we have here in the US is closer to pink but is a bit orange (kind of a pink/orange), it is pretty bright. The Saab stuff is bright blue. The Merc stuff is light amber to me (very neutral), though it has been termed orange as well on some pages. An H motor is the saab 4 cyl since MY '81 in the US. The earlier B motor was not nearly as high of performance and that may be why it was not such a problem. The flush procedure is on the Townsend imports web page. You can use a detergent/cleaner specifically for this and then water to clean out the system. The biggest issue is that you do not want to mix dexcool with conventional. What color is the stuff in it now? The car is new enough that there is probably no catastrophic problem with adding what you got from the dealer, but in the interest of protecting your investment, I would ensure that what you have is the same stuff as what is in the car currently. If the color looks off, it is not the same or has been contaminated. If so, I would flush and fill with the Saab stuff you have now (assuming it is not Dexcool). If I were to plan on a flush and fill (every 2-3 yr), I would use Merc coolant and do in all my cars. What does the label on the coolant bottle say. If there is a GM number or other pertinent information, we may be able to tell what you have. What color is the reservoir fill now?
