I agree. The difference in leather seats that have been well maintained and
those that haven't is often apparent in just a few years. I recently shopped
for a used 9-3 SE and found two '99s just off lease. One had less than 40K
and the leather in all four seats was creased and dirty. The driver's seat
was starting to fade and crack, probably because it had been exposed to
weather through an open sunroof and never cleaned or conditioned. The second
car, which I bought, had 55K but the seats looked as though mine was the
first derriere ever to sully them. They also had the squeak and scent of
Lexol, which tells me the guy who leased the car took care of it. As my wife
is constantly telling me, most women are leather freaks -- which is why they
spend all that money on shoes and handbags when the closet is already full.
They can spot a scuff a mile away, and subtract style points from anyone who
doesn't keep their hide shiny.
