I live at a ski resort and drive snowpacked and unplowed roads all
winter. We get an average of 500 inches/year. The employees and
residents *all* drive narrower tires inflated to a higher pressure in
the winter for traction. Same goes for the Sheriff and Search and
Rescue. On my 900, I run 185s in the winter, 205s in the summer.
If you want good traction, get a good studded snowtire, as narrow as
possible, and inflate it higher than what you normally run in the
summer. It makes a huge difference.

So I think I know of which I speak. Believe me, I've
experimented plenty and pulled enough people out of the snow.
