This is normally due to clutch drag - i.e. not disengaging fully. Make checks in this order (cheapest first): 1. Carpet rucked up under clutch pedal. 2. Seat position - I find a single notch is enough to make the difference between fully depressing the pedal and not fully depressing. 3. Clutch hydraulic fluid level. 4. Air in hydraulics. 5. Clutch master cylinder. 6. Clutch / slave cylinder. (This is a serious job) Adrian 1992 9000CS 2.3 16i, 109k miles, original clutch.
