However, belts are quieter, smoother, and reduce recieprocating weight, which means 'quicker' accelleration of the engine. And don't require lubrication. BUT, they do wear out quicker. It's a trade-off. Replace them as a matter of normal maintaince, and they do their job just fine. Some race cars actually use gears in place of a chain or belt. Nothing to break or wear out there. However, they are VERY noisy and have a lot of vibration to go with them. They virtually never break, but I don't think they are very 'street' friendly. :^)
